Hoops in the Copperbelt

The recent collection of football kit, footballs and nets for use for the Games for Life Programme in the Copperbelt region of Zambia went well and all goods donated arrived safely in Kitwe some weeks ago. Included within the consignment were a significant number of English and Maths text books, donated by QPR fans, father & son Julian and Richard Lloyd, which have been shared between the various community schools that CHEP work with. Massive thanks to everyone who donated goods, and to all who were involved in the transportation of them.

To coincide with anti racism in football week, a small group of us worked on the production of a cd presentation focussing on the various issues facing the Copperbelt area regarding its health problems, and the relationship that has forged between CHEP and QPR 1st Supporters Trust. The original intention was to distribute the cd's outside the ground before the home game against Oldham. However, even though we applied to Kick it Out (the UK's leading anti racism organisation) for a grant, they didn't receive it and so due to QPR fan, Tom Rizzo (who did most of the technical work for the cd), paying for the outlay of the venture himself, we decided to change the distribution of them to go initially to /local groups/causes.

We are currently concentrating on the local community (all primary schools within the borough to receive one); ex players such as Les Ferdinand; The Football League and the PFA; the club; and all other Supporters Trusts with the intention of gaining a community network.

Any others left over will be for distribution for any members/fans who wish to receive a copy, so if you would one please get in touch with us either via info@qpr1st.co.uk or write to us at our po box and we'll pop a copy in the post to you.
